Itunes new Market?
A week ago or more now I noticed after the new install and upgrade a new feature. Apple Itunes have added one more section, the ring tones section. One might say well about time, well others are more oblivious and say “Rad new feature, man”. Is this a bold move for Itunes? What will be the functionality with Itunes and Ringtones?
With the spark of Apple’s new products, namely the Iphone, the move to ringtones was obvious. How will marketers adjust to this change and position themselves in the market? Pushing ease and convience perhaps?
For myself I like to see where the changes happened visually, therefore below is screen shot of Itunes Ring tones incorporation into there current interface:

Apple Itunes has figured out how they can cash into the market of ringtones(the saturated market as it is)…notice the store is beneath the ringtones..hmm..I say…The Next Big Question is where are you targeting your market? Ringtones, perhaps try think of how Itunes application can be an asset to your business..
Of all the cell phone accessories in the market, the most promising ones seem to be the ones launched by lg phones. The second one to introduce some exemplary ones are the sprint phones. Not all cell phones are able to accomplish so much.

The Ubuntu Server Report
I have been meaning to write an article a long time now about Linux and its power. However, I’ll wait till a later post to cover the basics. As everyone know Linux is another Operating System. Recently is has been picking up storm, especially Ubuntu.
Mark Shuttle worth a South African billionaire entrepreneur, has alot to be happy these days, after the rapid growth of the community. In a sense he has taken Linux and commercialized it.
An announcement on November 15, 2007 that Dell would sport the first Pre-Installed Ubuntu Server Edition.
“It is expected to announce in the first quarter of 2008 that it has certified Ubuntu Linux for its server lines.

Frustrations with online videos…
Last night i was trying to find CSI – NY, which episode I missed, turns out it was Season 4 Episode 1. I went directly to CBS website and found that you could watch full episodes on the actual broadcasters website, I was shocked and excited, I had heard of this but hadn’t experienced it firsthand for myself. So I tried to view video, so it took me to new window and asked me to install a firefox plugin, i gladly did it. However, my first warning signs went up, the plugin was real player, who uses real player nowadays on the web? I restarted firefox and it seemed to work. It gave me three commercials before giving me what I call the black screen of death: “US Residents Only”.
At this point I was frustrated and angry because I abide in Canada, what was the big difference? So I resorted to my old ways of getting CSI NY. Maybe the networks should make it open for all and not just US, they might increase there viewer ship online, and attract more people to there shows…making more money. Does anybody think this would be a good idea or is it just me?

Review of TechCrunch Top 40
1) Flock – Victoria/New York Based company – with a social browser in mind. I have heard lots about this but I think i will stick to firefox, maybe when it becomes more stable I will give thought!
2)Teach the People- Another education tool and low startup cost’s to project pretty impressive. I think Techcrunch summarized who they are best:
Teach The People is a social network built around online education. The site lets anyone with specific subject knowledge or a useful skill set share with the Teach The People communities. Users get to create individual profiles and contribute content to topics such as computer programming, math or “Bob Marley’s Influence on R&B Music”.
*3)CampusSphere- Being a college student I think I would love this on the web..
“CampusSphere is a social platform designed to leverage the power of groups to help college students become more productive and connected. Students are hungry for a platform that allows them to organize, discuss, and disseminate the vast information provided to them from their clubs, fraternities, classes and other social circles. CampusSphere provides a tailored and tightly integrated set of features that will enable more effective group interaction, sharing of information, and better group collaboration.”
4)CastTV – Building a video application search engine.
5)Trip It- Travel organizer, this could be really useful. “Creates master itineraries with travel plans and other critical information like weather, maps and driving directions, and destination information”
6)BeFunky- This one neat because it creates an avatar for you! For all the creative types this one is for you..making easy custom design for facebook, myspace, hi5 and other forums / online communities.
6 out of the Techcrunch Top 40 that I liked and thought were innovative.
* Found in the demo pit!
Another one I saw was from Shoemoney site: Synthasite – Techcrunch40 demo pit I found this one interesting because it was done by a South African internet marketer. Since I’m from South Africa it caught my attention, and they are hiring in Cape Gardens.
I enjoy seeing these new ideas and concepts of business because I am currently in business school. To summarize it best, I would ask you to check out these sites I’ve linked above and support there start-ups.
Cheers For Now Dave
